If a customer in Riyadh searches “مطعم قريب مني” or “best dentist near me”, Google shows three businesses on a map before anything else. That box is called the Local Pack, and the businesses in it get most of the calls, visits and WhatsApp messages.
Your Google Business Profile decides whether you appear there. I have spent seven years optimizing profiles for restaurants, clinics, salons, contractors and retail chains across Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. This guide shares exactly what works in the Saudi market today, from the first setup step to advanced tactics most agencies never talk about.
No old tips. No filler. Just what moves rankings and customers in 2026.
What is Google Business Profile and why it matters in Saudi Arabia
Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is a free listing that shows your business on Google Search and Google Maps. It shows your name, location, hours, phone number, photos, reviews and links.
In Saudi Arabia it matters even more for three reasons:
- Saudis search on mobile. Most local searches happen on a phone, and Google Maps is often the first app people open when choosing where to eat, shop or book.
- Reviews drive trust. Saudi customers read reviews and look at photos before visiting, especially for restaurants, clinics and salons.
- AI now reads your profile. Google’s AI Overviews, AI Mode and Ask Maps pull answers from your profile, reviews and website. So do tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity when people ask for recommendations.
A well managed profile is often the cheapest source of new customers a local business has.
Before you start: what you need
Prepare these before you create or fix your profile. It saves weeks of verification trouble.
- Commercial Registration (CR) from the Saudi Business Center, matching your trade name.
- National Address (العنوان الوطني) registered with Saudi Post (SPL), including your short address code.
- A Saudi phone number in +966 format that you answer and that works on WhatsApp.
- Permanent signage with your business name, visible from the street or mall walkway.
- A Google account owned by the business owner, not by an employee or agency.
- Your website with your name, address and phone number in the footer.
How to create and verify your profile in Saudi Arabia
Choose the right profile type
This is the first decision and many businesses get it wrong.
- Storefront: customers visit you. Cafés, clinics, shops, gyms. Your address shows on the map.
- Service area business: you go to the customer. Plumbers, AC repair, cleaning, moving, pest control. Hide your address and set the areas you serve.
- Hybrid: you have a location and also deliver or visit customers. Restaurants with delivery, car service centers with mobile service.
Home based businesses and online stores without a place customers can visit should use a service area profile. Using a home address as a storefront is one of the most common reasons for suspension.
Video verification tips
Most new profiles in Saudi Arabia are now verified by video. Record one continuous video and show:
- The street name or a nearby landmark outside.
- Your storefront with the sign clearly visible.
- The inside of the business, such as the counter, equipment or waiting area.
- Proof that you manage it, such as opening the shop with your key, using the POS system, or showing your CR or a work vehicle.
Common reasons Saudi verifications fail:
- The sign is only in Arabic, but the profile name is only in English, or the reverse.
- The business is in a new district that Google Maps does not show correctly yet.
- The business is inside a mall and the video does not show the mall entrance and unit.
- The video is cut into several clips instead of one continuous recording.
Google may also contact you by call, text or WhatsApp on your verified number to confirm details. Make sure someone answers that number.
Business name: Arabic, English or both
Your profile name must match your real world name as shown on your sign and CR. That is Google’s rule.
- If your sign is in Arabic, use the Arabic name.
- If your sign shows both, you can use both, for example “Brand Name | اسم العلامة”.
- Do not add keywords or districts that are not part of your real name.
You will see many Riyadh profiles named like “مطعم مندي الرياض حي النرجس أفضل مندي”. It may help them for a short time, but it is against Google’s guidelines. Competitors report these names and Google suspends them. A clean name is a long term asset.
Choosing the right categories
Your primary category is one of the strongest ranking factors you control.
- Search your main keyword on Google Maps and check the primary category of the top three competitors in your district.
- Pick the most specific category that matches your main service. “Dental clinic” is better than “Medical clinic” for a dentist.
- Add secondary categories only for services you actually offer.
- Check the category list in both the Arabic and English Google interface. Names can differ, and some categories are easier to find in one language.
Review your categories every few months. Google adds new ones, and a better match can lift rankings quickly.
Address, map pin and districts
- Enter your address as it appears on your National Address.
- Place the pin exactly on your entrance, not the middle of the building or road.
- Use the official district name (الحي). Informal names confuse Google and customers.
- For malls and towers, add the unit or floor number.
- Keep your name, address and phone number (NAP) exactly the same on your website, Apple Maps, delivery apps and directories.
Business hours for the Saudi calendar
Wrong hours cost Saudi businesses more customers than almost anything else.
- Weekend: Friday and Saturday. Set them correctly.
- Late hours: many Saudi businesses open past midnight. If you close at 2 AM, set it properly or Google will show you as closed.
- Ramadan: set special hours for the whole month, including iftar and suhoor timing. Update them early because dates follow the moon.
- Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha: set special hours or closures for each day.
- National holidays: Saudi Founding Day (22 February) and Saudi National Day (23 September).
- Prayer times: closing for prayer is no longer required, but if your business still closes, mention it in your description and posts so customers are not surprised.
When your hours are accurate, Google trusts your profile more, and customers who arrive find you open.
Description, attributes, services and products
Description
You have 750 characters. Use them to explain what you do, who you serve, which area you cover and why customers choose you. Write in Arabic for most local businesses. Use English first if your customers are mostly expatriates or business clients. Do not add links, phone numbers or promotions here.
Attributes
Attributes are small labels that help both customers and AI search. Fill in every one that applies:
- Family section, women owned, wheelchair accessible entrance, parking.
- Payment methods: mada, Apple Pay, credit cards, STC Pay, Tabby and Tamara.
- Service options: dine in, takeaway, delivery, online appointments.
Services and products
- List every service with a short description and price in SAR when possible.
- Add products with photos. Profiles that publish products give Google more content to match with searches.
- Restaurants should add a menu and order links to HungerStation, Jahez, Keeta, ToYou or Mrsool.
Photos and videos that win clicks
Saudi customers judge a business by its photos before they visit. Upload real photos taken at your location, not stock images.
- Exterior: so customers recognize you from the street.
- Interior: seating, family areas, waiting rooms, cleanliness.
- Team and work: your staff, your kitchen, your before and after results.
- Products and dishes: well lit, close up.
- Short videos of 10 to 30 seconds.
Add new photos every month. Fresh photos show Google and customers that the business is active. Report customer photos that are wrong or show another business.
WhatsApp, calls and booking links
In Saudi Arabia, WhatsApp is how most customers want to talk to a business. Google has replaced its old chat feature with WhatsApp and SMS options on the profile.
- Connect a WhatsApp Business number to your profile.
- Set auto replies in Arabic and English for after hours.
- Reply within minutes during working hours. Speed turns searchers into customers.
- Add booking or appointment links for clinics, salons and service businesses.
- Add UTM tracking to your website link so you can see profile traffic in Google Analytics 4.
Reviews: getting them, replying and fighting fake ones
Reviews affect both your ranking and whether customers choose you.
How to get more reviews
- Put a QR code at the cashier, reception or on the delivery bag.
- Send a short WhatsApp message with your review link after each visit or service.
- Ask at the right moment, when the customer is happy.
- Aim for steady new reviews every week rather than many in one month. Rankings often drop when reviews stop for six to eight weeks.
Avoid these: buying reviews, offering discounts for reviews, asking customers to mention a specific staff name, or using review kiosks in your shop. Google’s 2026 review policy targets these practices, and fake Saudi reviews are being filtered.
How to reply
- Reply to every review, positive and negative.
- Reply in the language the customer used.
- Thank them by name and mention what they enjoyed. This adds natural keywords.
- For negative reviews, apologize, stay calm, and invite them to WhatsApp to solve it. Never argue publicly.
Fake and attack reviews
Competitor review attacks are common in Riyadh and Jeddah, especially for restaurants. Report fake reviews from your profile, keep screenshots, and use Google’s review management tool for follow up. Do not reply with anger. Future customers read your reply.
Google Posts and the Saudi marketing calendar
Posts are short updates that appear on your profile. Publish at least one every week or two.
Plan posts around the Saudi calendar:
- Ramadan offers, iftar and suhoor menus
- Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha greetings and offers
- Saudi Founding Day and Saudi National Day
- Riyadh Season and Jeddah Season events
- Back to school, summer, White Friday and 11.11 sales
Add your Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok and X links to the profile. Snapchat is especially popular in Saudi Arabia.
How local ranking works in 2026
Google ranks local businesses on three main factors:
- Relevance: how well your profile matches the search. Categories, services, description and reviews matter here.
- Distance: how close you are to the searcher or the area in the search.
- Prominence: how well known and trusted you are. Reviews, links, mentions and activity matter here.
In 2026, Google gives more weight to engagement. When people click your profile, call, ask for directions and spend time on it, your rankings improve. A complete, attractive profile is no longer just nice to have. It is a ranking factor.
Track rankings by district, not by city
Riyadh is huge. Ranking first in Al Olaya means nothing for a customer in Al Narjis. Use a geogrid rank tracker to see your position across a map of your area, and track Arabic and English keywords separately because results differ.
Arabic keyword research for local search
Saudi customers search in different ways for the same thing:
- Modern standard Arabic: “مغسلة سيارات”
- Everyday wording: “غسيل سيارات”
- English: “car wash Riyadh”
- Near me searches: “قريب مني” and “near me”
- Voice search in local dialect
Use Google autocomplete, “People also ask”, and your own reviews to find the real words customers use. Place these words naturally in your services, description, posts and website. Never stuff them into your business name.
Your website, schema and location pages
Your profile and website work together. Google checks that they match.
- Create one location page for each branch, in Arabic and English, with hreflang tags.
- Add LocalBusiness schema markup with your name, National Address, phone, hours and coordinates.
- Embed a Google Map of your location.
- Show your CR number and VAT number in the footer for trust.
- Make the site fast on mobile.
- Link your profile to the matching location page, not just the homepage.
Local citations
List your business with the same details on Apple Business Connect (very important because iPhone use is high in Saudi Arabia), Bing Places, Waze, Saudi business directories and delivery apps.
Local links
Earn links from Saudi news sites, chambers of commerce, event sponsorships, local bloggers and partners. These build prominence that competitors cannot copy easily.
Ranking in AI answers: Ask Maps, AI Overviews and ChatGPT
Customers now ask AI tools questions like “Where can I find a family friendly restaurant in Al Malqa?” The answers come from data AI can trust.
- Google removed the old Q&A section. It is being replaced by Ask Maps, which uses Gemini to answer questions from your profile, reviews, photos and website.
- Make your information complete. Attributes, services, hours and descriptions are what AI reads.
- Detailed reviews help. A review saying “great family section and fast delivery to Al Yasmin” answers future questions.
- Add an FAQ page to your website in Arabic and English.
- Be consistent everywhere. AI tools trust businesses whose details match across Google, Apple Maps, directories and the web.
- Test it. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity in Arabic and English for the best business in your category and district. See if you appear.
Managing multiple branches
For chains with several locations:
- Use a Business Group to manage all branches in one place.
- Give each branch a consistent name format, such as “Brand Name, Al Malqa” only if the branch sign shows it.
- Use bulk verification when you have 10 or more locations.
- Schedule posts and holiday hours for all branches at once.
- Give managers access, but keep the business owner as the primary owner. Never let an agency or employee own the profile.
Suspensions, spam and fixing problems
Why profiles get suspended
- Keyword stuffed business names
- Virtual offices, co working spaces or home addresses as storefronts
- Wrong category or many profiles for one business
- Sudden big changes to name or address
How to get reinstated
Fix the problem first, then submit a reinstatement request with proof: CR, National Address, lease contract, utility bill and photos of your signage.
Fighting competitor spam
If competitors use fake names, fake locations or fake listings, report them through “Suggest an edit” or Google’s business redressal form with screenshots. Removing spam often lifts your ranking without any other change.
Protect your profile
Turn on two step verification for the Google account. Check your profile weekly for edits made by Google or users.
Tracking results
Check these numbers every month in your profile’s performance section:
- Views on Search and Maps
- Search terms people used to find you, in Arabic and English
- Calls, WhatsApp clicks and messages
- Direction requests
- Website clicks and bookings
Connect these to real results such as orders, appointments and sales. That is how you know your profile is making money.

- Linking the profile to an English only homepage.
